The Mexican Grand Prix takes place this weekend and for lewis Hamilton this could be a victory parade!
F1 betting fans now Hamilton is just one win away from securing his fourth World Championship crown.
Mercedes driver Hamilton sits 66 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel in the F1 standings. Vettel only has 75 points to play for in the final three races of the season so he needs something of a miracle to secure the title in 2017!
In reality Hamilton has all-but won the Drivers’ Championship but there is still a race to compete in this week. Mexico is an Grand Prix famed for its inconsistencies, having only re-entered the F1 schedule in 2015.
It’s Hamilton vs Vettel once again on Sunday. Here are the best bets.
Bet on Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton is the 17/20 favourite to win the Mexican Grad Prix and is a good bet at that. The Brit has won nine races already this year and since the summer has been on stellar form. Bar a second-place finish in Malaysia Hamilton has been unstoppable of late. His excellent drives compared to team-mate Valtteri Bottas prove just how good a racer Hamilton is. Vettel just hasn’t been able to keep up and Hamilton is also 6/4 to pole in qualifying.
Mexican Grand Prix qualifying shouldn’t be too much of an issue to Hamilton. There are three wickedly long straights on the circuit that his Mercedes can exploit. The home straight down the Turn 1 is enormous, which benefits Mercedes’ imperious straight-line speed, and the run from Turn 3 to 4 is also pretty long. The Turns between 6 and 12, meanwhile, aren’t really turns at all, more like a slalom. That means Hamilton can keep his foot on the gas and not worry about Vettel behind him.
Bet on Sebastian Vettel
It’s hard to see where Vettel or his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen can hurt Hamilton here. The Ferraris and their Red Bull counterparts are more nimble than the Mercedes but there’s only really two clusters of corners where they can shave off valuable seconds. If, as expected, Vettel and Hamilton lock out the grid in qualifying then we should have an interesting start to the race, with Hamilton likely to lead into Turn 1. But Vettel could use DRS to get past the Brit if he sticks with Hamilton for the first few laps.
Vettel is 9/2 to win the Mexican Grand Prix and that really is a tough ask, especially with the Red Bulls also on Hamilton’s tail…
Bet on Max Verstappen
F1 has found a new hero in Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is driving like a world champion in a car that is definitely second best. He and Daniel Ricciardo are consistently picking up podium places and in Malaysia Verstappen grabbed the race win. He is also 9/2 to win this race but will require an excellent qualifying stint to do so. Verstappen and Ricciardo are both excellent racers, but their qualifying laps sometimes leave plenty to be desired. Not being on pole has cost Red Bull a few times this season. He is 3/1 to finish fourth in Mexico.
Mexican Grand Prix Betting
Other bets to consider for the Mexican Grand Prix can be found further down the field. Fernando Alonso has pledged to remain at McLaren next season despite a disastrous three years with the Honda engine powering his car. 2018 will see Renault take over as engine suppliers ad Alonso seems keen to get the best out of McLaren.
Alonso retired from the US Grand Prix and finished 11th in his two races before that. His best finish was sixth in Hungary but bar that this season has been basically a write-off. He is 50/1 to reach the podium.
Meanwhile, Esteban Ocon once again proved that Force India can be the ‘best of the rest’ with a sixth-place finish at the US Grand Prix last weekend. Ocon has been in the points in all but one Grand Prix this season and has not yet retired. Back-to-back sixth places prove he is a strong driver and he’s 33/1 to pinch a podium
