La Liga Betting: Best tips and odds for 2017/18 season

August 1, 2017

The Spanish football season is ready to go and once again this will be a two-horse race between Barcelona and Madrid for the title.

La Liga betting experts already have Madrid down as 1.90 favourites to win La Liga. But don’t worry Barcelona fans, they are only slightly further out at 1.95!

That shows the indecision regarding the title race this year, with Spain’s top two clubs seemingly as strong as they were last term. As for Atl Madrid, they are out at 34.00 — highlighting just how great the gulf in class between them and their rivals are.

Bet on Madrid

The big question every year in Spain is who will win between Madrid and Barcelona. Madrid finally ended a five-year wait for the title last term with a three-point victory over their fierce rivals. Atl Madrid were way behind.

Can Madrid win the title again? Their manager has largely kept the same squad in tact, although James has gone to =

Munich on loan. The arrivals of a new midfielder and left-back certainly help Madrid’s cause but the boss has not strengthened his forward line — rather, he has consolidated it.

The usual BBC front three at Madrid remains. The manager wants to sign Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe but the €200m the ligue 1 champions are demanding has rightly dissuaded the Madrid hierarchy. In all it’s been a disappointing transfer window for Madrid and their failure to have signed a new goalkeeper will have irked many fans.

Bet on Barcelona

As for Barcelona, they have endured a managerial change and also experienced the turmoil of Neymar being linked with a move to Paris SG. They’ve struggled to earmark a replacement for the Brazilian if he does force a €222m transfer, while defensively Nelsinho’s arrival has not got Barcelona betting fans wildly jumping off their seats.

A replacement for Andres Iniesta is also desperately sought. The problem for Barcelona, like Madrid, is that their squads are good enough to dominate La Liga. However, neither have strengthened enough to guarantee the latter stages of the Champions League.

Bet on La Liga

Away from the title race, it’s worth having a look at the top-six market. Spanish clubs take the Europa League seriously as it’s an avenue into the Champions League. Atl Madrid will likely be third again this term, although their transfer ban may see them drop a couple of places after they were denied the opportunity to strengthen this summer.

Valencia are in turmoil and are desperate to slash their wage budget. They are 2.50 to finish in the top six but worth avoiding. Celta Vigo enjoyed a great European campaign last term but that cost them in the league, where they finished 13th. With no Europe this season you can expect them to do much better and they are 5.00 to be in the top six come May.

Bet on Spanish Golden Boot

This no doubt will be a typical Cristiano v Messi battle. However, there are plenty of other players all capable of finishing as top scorer.

Messi won the golden boot last season with an incredible 37 goals. Cristiano was down at 25. And, sandwiched in the middle, was Luis Suarez with a superb 29. It is amazing when considering Barcelona’s attacking unit that they did not win the league last season. Tactics and their defence let them down.

Messi is 1.90 to win the golden boot again this season. It would be the fifth time of his career he would claim the coveted prize. However, Suarez is also a great shout to clinch the boot. Not only is the Uruguayan in top form, he is also enjoying a more responsible role in the side and with Neymar’s future uncertain may become a more focal point to the team next term.

Suarez has scored for fun ever since he moved to Europe when joining Ajax. He is 4.00 to win the golden boot and that is a great price for someone who is guaranteed at least 25 goals this season.

As for Cristiano, the three-time winner carried Madrid’s forward line for long periods last season. His two partners in the BBC triumvirate managed just 18 between them. That is not good enough and Cristiano cannot be expected to do all the goalscoring yet again this term. If Real want to win the league again they must get their strikers scoring more. They were lucky last term.

Cristiano is 2.75 to finish top scorer but the Barcelona boys remain at bet
