Major competition for the reigning champion is Rory McIlroy. Golf betting odds are shortening on the Northern Irishman after he completed the career Grand Slam with his 2025 US Masters win – only the sixth golfer to do so. 

McIlroy beat Justin Rose in a dramatic showdown, even after failing on the 18th green for the first time. This win ended his 10-year dry streak since claiming the 2014 PGA Championship title and set him up well for the rest of the majors to come.

However, Scottie Scheffler remains the favourite for this year. As the reigning Masters champion until McIlroy’s win, Schelfer keeps his top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings, for now. He also won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, alongside seven PGA Tour events.

Two players who certainly shouldn’t be ruled out of 2025’s PGA Championship race are Ludvig Aberg and Bryson DeChambeau. Aberg looked good at the masters, joining McIlroy and Rose at the top for the final few holes. DeChambeau eventually tied fifth place, but beat McIlroy in the US Open final round last year.
