Established in 1959, Quail Hollow has been home to the Wells Fargo Championship since 2003. It also hosts other prominent US golf tournaments, including the Kemper and the Presidents Cup.
The 7600-yard course is famous for its challenging layout, particularly ‘The Green Mile’ section. Holes 16, 17, and 18 of Quaint Hollow offer one of the most difficult finishes in professional golf, with hole 16 sitting near the edge of a lake.
October 1916, Siwanoy Country Club, New York: The place where 32 players battled it out in the PGA Championship for the Wanamaker Trophy.
This first tournament was won by “Long” Jim Barnes, who received just $500 worth of prize money! Today, the stakes are much higher, with six-figure earnings and a chance for professional players to seal their spot in future golfing majors.
Since 2019, the modern 71-par Championship has taken place on the weekend before Memorial Day. It’s also the Second major after the Masters in April, which previews what’s to come for the rest of the season – including in June’s US Open and July’s Open Championship.
The most popular market when it comes to placing a bet on golf is the outright winner, which is the player who will make history in the PGA Championship. They’ll also secure their invite to all majors for the next 5 years, plus achieve permanent eligibility for future PGA Championships.
Besides the outright winner, Unibet offers three other major golf betting markets to enhance the excitement:
As last year’s winner and reigning champ of the Open Championship, Xander Schauffele has great odds for the 2025 Championship. He’s also the first golfer to seal two majors in one season with a final-round 65.
The PGA at Valhalla Golf Club was Schauffele’s first major win, where he claimed the title over Bryson DeChambeau by just one stroke with a birdie. The American established an early lead with his 62-score opening round, then went on to win with a record-low score of 21 under par.
Major competition for the reigning champion is Rory McIlroy. Golf betting odds are shortening on the Northern Irishman after he completed the career Grand Slam with his 2025 US Masters win – only the sixth golfer to do so.
McIlroy beat Justin Rose in a dramatic showdown, even after failing on the 18th green for the first time. This win ended his 10-year dry streak since claiming the 2014 PGA Championship title and set him up well for the rest of the majors to come.
However, Scottie Scheffler remains the favourite for this year. As the reigning Masters champion until McIlroy’s win, Schelfer keeps his top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings, for now. He also won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, alongside seven PGA Tour events.
Two players who certainly shouldn’t be ruled out of 2025’s PGA Championship race are Ludvig Aberg and Bryson DeChambeau. Aberg looked good at the masters, joining McIlroy and Rose at the top for the final few holes. DeChambeau eventually tied fifth place, but beat McIlroy in the US Open final round last year.
