This year’s tournament is set to take place at another iconic coastal links location – on the Dunluce course at Royal Portrush Golf Club, Northern Island, from July 17 to 20.
This marks Portrush’s third time hosting, following its successful staging in 2019 when Ireland’s Shane Lowry won his first major title. The 7337-yard course also hosted in 1951, making it the first British Open venue outside of England and Scotland.
As well as receiving the Claret Jug, the 2025 winner will become Champion Golfer of the Year and gain automatic entry to every major tournament for the next 5 years. They’ll also have a 5-year membership for both the PGA and European tours.
At Unibet UK, there are several ways for you to bet on golf tournaments like the Open Championship. The biggest market is Outright Winner, where your wager will pay out if you select the right person to lift the trophy.

Wondering how you should bet on the Open Championship this year? Let’s take a look at the tournament’s top contenders and their current Open Championship betting odds as of April 14, 2025:
Current Odds: 5/1
Scottie Scheffler remains number one in the Official World Golf Rankings and has been the favourite to claim the Claret Trophy every year since 2023. The American won seven PGA Tour events last year, plus a gold medal during the 2024 Paris Olympics, but is yet to win anything this season.
Current Odds: 11/2
McIlroy finally secured the Green Jacket at this year’s Masters after beating Justin Rose in a dramatic play-off. This title makes him the sixth golfer in history to complete the coveted career Grand Slam of all four majors. Now, the Northern Irish golfer is aiming for a victory at Royal Portrush in front of a home crowd, 9 years after lifting the trophy at Royal Liverpool.
Current Odds: 9/1
Securing last year’s title with a 275 score at Royal Troon Golf Club, Xander Schauffele is the defending Open Championship winner. He has also scored 15 major top-10s since 2017, making him a top candidate for this year’s claret. However, no golfer has won back-to-back Opens since Padraig Harrington in 2008.
Jon Rahm is a Double Irish Open champion, claiming the victory in 2017 at Royal Portstewart and again two years later at Lahinch. The two-time major winner didn’t quite play at his best in last year’s first three majors, but he certainly staged a comeback during the Open, finishing seventh. Could he do the same again this year?
