Paul Nicholson: “With both in a fantastic position for the final push, this game is your quintessential 6-pointer”

James Wade v Jose De Sousa 

There have been times over the last few weeks that JDS has been called one of the most talented players to have ever graced our game. This coming with compelling evidence and I don’t think there are many people who are refuting it. His 180 hitting has been borderline off the scale, and he is on course for hitting the most maximums in PL league phase history. 

With that in mind, James will have to find a very efficient game and deflect the 180 action from JDS by having a silly 140 count and pinpoint finishing, or somehow trade blows with him in that treble 20. 

The result is not obvious here, and the previous encounter where Jose won 7-5 doesn’t give us a great deal of insight, but surely you have to give De Sousa the big edge in the maximums.

Nathan Aspinall v Dimitri Van Den Bergh

When Dimitri defeated Aspinall 7-5 in their previous PL match, it was one that was let slip by Nathan, but you have to hand it to The Dreammaker, who plucked the two points away from The Asp with clinical timing and merciless shooting. 

These two could be one of the rivalries for the next decade, and Nathan Aspinall will want to reverse the previous result so much. With them both in a fantastic position for the final push, playing each other right now is your quintessential 6-pointer, even though it is only 2 for the win and not 3. 

I think it will go 14 legs like last time, but if I was a punter, I would feel nervous going for the outright victor because Aspinall is back to form, and has always been someone who plays on confidence, and after a strong, yet winless, Super Series 3 in Germany which saw him hit a 9-darter, he will not want to let points slip here.
