Greyhound Racing Preview – 22nd March

 

PERRY BARR 

Flyhigh Ollyhaz (T6) will be much happier on home sand in today’s Open Race at 15:22 after finding plenty of trouble in running at Doncaster last time and Ian Walker’s five-time winner will be more comfortable back in trap 6, so warrants serious respect in a race where there are questions marks surrounding others in the field. That said, the versatile Sawpit Sunshine (T1) is the quickest on the clock and has been in good form of late, winning two A2s, and David Hunt currently boasts a profitable seventy five percent strike rate.  

The 15:37 looks a corker with oodles of early pace so a rough race to the first bend looks highly likely which should suit Affirmed (T3) who does have to improve a little but a reproduction of his A2 victory in January, which was won in just 28.55s, should be enough to see him go close. Emers Cookie (T1) is a 14-time Open Race winner and if he can get his nose in front early on, he’s often hard to peg back so shouldn’t ruled out. 

In the sprint at 14:44, Simon Deakin’s Yardman (T1) looks to have every opportunity of gaining a seventh victory in a race that looks easier than his most recent start and he looks nap material. 

 

PELAW GRANGE 

Ferndale Jet (T4) was always playing catch up last time which put pay to his winning chance but if flipping the lids well today, Trevor Jameson’s runner should be able to make amends in the A1 at 20:11 at the main expense of Cushie Blake (T1). 

In race 10, at 20:45, Le Razale (T3) has to be of interest after bolting up on her one and only start in an A1 last time and while she has work to do on the clock, it will be worth noting if any money comes for this ex Irish trainee. But the nod goes to Racecourse Girls (T4) who has bags of early pace and has already finished ahead of the reopposing Murphy (T1) twice this year. If coping with the switch to trap four, this May ’16 bitch should be massively respected. Glengiblin Tommy (T5) is as consistent as they come and won’t be far away in the concluding event at 21:19. 

 

POOLE 

The stayers are on show in the 20:37 and Mickeys Choice (T1) hasn’t run around six bends since October but that was a solid second in an S2 in 40.36s which is the faster than any of his rivals have managed and the step down to S3 should see Steve Pilgrim’s six-time winner add to that tally in a race where the whole field have been beaten by an aggregate of over 40 lengths on their latest starts. 

Six Gun (T6) will be firing on all cylinders in the A1 at 19:46 and while this tough bitch has to bounce back from a below par effort last time, Dave Gallimore’s inmate posesess plenty of ability and could be the class act, but Dundee June (T1) found 415m way too sharp in an Open Race at Harlow on Wednesday and Dave Lewis’s bitch, who has won six of her thirteen starts, will be much happier on home ground and could still be improving.
