Jamie Spencer: “I’d like to be riding Wembley in the 2000 Guineas”

Jamie Spencer|29 April 2021

NO Newmarket for me on Saturday but I’d like to be riding Wembley in the 2000 Guineas.

He has a lot going for him.

His midfield draw is fine, he has bundles of experience, he has been there and done it on the track after arguably finishing an unlucky second in the Dewhurst, and it looks like the step up to a mile will suit him plenty.

He has shaped far better than the bare results on his last two starts in Group 1 company, and he looks to hold pretty strong claims to me.

Doncaster

5.00pm

Bomb Proof

He looked like he was a colt going places after winning on his debut at York for Jeremy Noseda back in 2019, and in fairness he won on his debut for James [Fanshawe] at Beverley last summer. It is fair to say he has struggled a bit since then but he didn’t shape too badly at Redcar last time and he was dropped 3lb for it. He is on a fair mark now if he can step up again.

5.35pm

Tyson

He is the only horse in the race with experience, so that’s a plus I guess, and he did pretty well at Newbury considering how keen he was in the early stages. Hopefully, he will have learned plenty from that run and prove the one to beat in here, though of course who knows what he is up against with five newcomers in opposition.

6.05pm

Luckiness

I rode him when he won at Chelmsford last season and he progressed from that to finish second under a penalty at Kempton next time, with the winner landing a handicap on his next start. This could be a decent little handicap but a mark of 82 looks okay. However, being a Mehmas, the distance is an unknown and he meets some race-fit rivals, of whom Aerion Power, who they are claiming 5lb off, could be the one to beat.

7.10pm

Queen Of Asia

I don’t know anything about her at the moment but she cost a fair bit as a yearling and is an Exceed And Excel filly with a fair pedigree. But Twilight Falls sets a fair standard in here.
