BLACK SALT is two from two over course and distance, and he won both of those races in a really dominant fashion. Southwell is a specialist course and, despite an 8lb rise, he looks to be the banker of the day at the Nottinghamshire track, in what doesn't look a strong contest. 

 

CHELMSFORD

 

Samphire Coast

5.50pm 6/1 from 10/1

Our traders report really good money for course winner SAMPHIRE COAST at Chelmsford this evening. His mark is dropping and it could be that his shrewd handler has him primed to strike. If it turns into a tactical affair the 6yo won't be tapped for toe and a case can be made for him. Interesting gamble. 

Speaking of Chelmsford, we are paying an EXTRA PLACE on the 7.25pm and the 7.55pm races.

Cheltenham Gold Cup 33/1 from 40/1

ANIBALE FLY didn't half finish strongly to be 3rd in last year's renewal before a good 4th in the Grand National carrying a huge weight. It's likely that this season has been built around those two races and 33/1 could still be a big price about a horse who should be primed for March and will be doing his best running all the way up the stiff finish.

Cheltenham Gold Cup 8/1 from 10/1

CLAN DES OBEAUX has also been nibbled for the Gold Cup following success in the 32Red King George VI Chase on Boxing Day. Paul Nicholls has a fine Gold Cup record and this progressive young stayer remains unexposed and will go to Cheltenham with every chance.
