Richard Hannon: “He’s one of our best chances of the day”

Richard Hannon|10 June 2021

A reasonably quiet Saturday for us on what’s often a more relaxed weekend before we turn our attention to five days at Royal Ascot where we should have plenty of runners and hopefully a few winners among them as well.

They’ve all done their last pieces of work including Chindit who I was very happy with on Tuesday when he galloped with Dingle and River Alwen. The plan remains the St James’s Palace Stakes on the first day and we are all looking forward to seeing him back in action after what was a pretty decent effort in the 2000 Guineas when he just didn’t handle the course.

Snow Lantern is also on target for the Coronation Stakes and we’ve done plenty of work in settling her down at home and she’s been away to gallop as well.

Gisburn is in good shape and all roads lead to the Coventry for him after his devastating victory at Newbury last time.

The guys from Unibet came down earlier in the week so be sure to keep tabs on their social media for my full Royal Ascot stable tour.

SANDOWN 3:25

Fountain Cross

He’s a little bit inconsistent but has some pretty smart form to his name and if the ground is quick he’d have an even bigger chance. The drop down in grade is obviously in his favour and hopefully he can run a nice race at decent odds.

Escobedo

He was arguably unlucky (for a couple of reasons) at Windsor on his first run back but that will have blown the cobwebs away and the step up a furlong, and this stiff track, will suit and I think he goes there with a great chance under Thore Hammer- Hanson who takes off a very valuable 3lbs.

YORK 4:15

Bosh

He’s a very smart colt who ran a great race on his first run at Salisbury and has come on a lot for it. The extra furlong should bring out even more improvement and I’ll be surprised if he’s not capable of putting up an extremely bold show. He’s one of our best chances of the day.

CHESTER 3:55

Robjon

He won on debut and his two runs after were excellent in defeat and he brings some pretty strong form to this race. The return to six furlongs is in his favour and a reproduction of his effort at Beverley should be good enough to win this.

BATH 1:55

Mount Rainier

She’s a nice filly by Kodiac who is well bred and shown plenty at home to suggest she’s more than capable and this doesn’t look a particularly strong race; that said I do think she’ll improve for the run.

Symphony Perfect

Both runs to date have been very good and with the benefit of that experience under her belt, she’d  have to be considered one of the likelier winners.

LEICESTER 7:45

Cuban Cigar

He’s pretty consistent on the whole and ran well enough at Doncaster last time to suggest he’d have a shout in this.  Ground wise he’s pretty versatile and he could be interesting back over a stiff mile here.
