I don’t think he really handled the ground at Newbury last time but should relish conditions at Haydock and, as you all know, he is extremely consistent. The long straight will suit and we are considering going over to Australia later in the year so it would be nice if he could gain a nice confidence boosting win en route.

Shouldvebeenaring (Sean Levey)

Obviously Shaquille will be very hard to beat, but this colt has always been classy and he ran a nice race at Newmarket last time. They’re likely to go very quick, which will suit, because he stays further than six and he’ll be there to pick up the pieces at the end.

Happy Romance (Paul Mulrennan) – RESERVE

She’s a very tough and consistent mare who was only beaten a length in this race last year and has had a nice break since Royal Ascot. I’ve been very happy with her work, and she looks great in her coat, so I’m hopeful she can run a nice race if getting a run.

He’s a lovely colt by Blue Point, who is a sire I like, and everything he’s done at home has been pretty smart. Like most of ours, he’ll improve for the experience, but he has a bright future and won’t disgrace himself.

He actually ran better at York than the form suggests because he met a spot of bother when coming through to make a challenge. I think the step up to a mile will suit, and this should be a lot easier than last time. He’s well clear on ratings and should go extremely close.

WOLVERHAMPTON

 Oh Herberts Reign and Ellade both head up to Wolverhampton for the Apprentice race 5:25. The latter is gradually coming down the weights and Joe Leavy takes a decent 5lbs off which counts for plenty and Herbert has been running well without winning this season, but is not without hope on his best form.
