DAY two is headlined by the unbeaten Baaeed in the Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1), who is looking to retain his 100% career record with his ninth career success. As ever he is hard to oppose at Unibet 1/7 on and with Coroebus not running after being found lame in his box on Monday morning then with no Real World to chase Baaeed home Alcohol Free is the each way choice at Unibet 10/1 if she continues her July Cup form. She was brilliant at Newmarket last month and won the Qatar Sussex Stakes in 2021, however has failed to get near the fantastic Baaeed on two previous meetings.

1.50 Goodwood – Handicap (1m 4f)

Mugader for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon can strike late on in a race where there will be plenty of pace with Luminous Light, Approachability and Box To Box in the field.

This will suit Mugader, who ran at Doncaster over one mile six and half furlongs last time out on good to firm and was impressive once he hit the front at Doncaster, going right away in the closing stages to win well. On his penultimate start over course and distance, Mugader was a staying on third to Double Cherry when doing all his best work at the finish and has good each way claims in this bigger field.

2.25 Goodwood – Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes Group 3 (7f) 

Primo Bacio has been plying her trade against the likes of Prosperous Voyage and Saffron Beach, which shows the company she’s been keeping this season and last season against Mother Earth and Alcohol Free. She can take a bit of a hold in her races and Soft Whisper and Happy Craf will ensure there’s no hanging around here and Primo Bacio can take advantage of the class drop to gain her second win over this distance.

Roman Mist who typically runs over a mile will be suited by this stiff seven furlongs and has each way claims at a big price. Ignore her last run at Pontefract when she clearly wasn’t right and look at her third behind Bashkirova at Epsom, which was a good performance. Roman Mist beat Potapova at Kempton earlier in the season and is a really improving type.

3.00 Goodwood – Markel Molecomb Stakes (Group 3) 5f

Rocket Rodney can step up once again, having won easily at Sandown at their Eclipse meeting, with Eddie’s Boy third (reopposes), who subsequently won the Wetherbys Super Sprint at Newbury. Rocket Rodney had previously finished second to Little Brown Bear, beaten a neck in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot in a race where the winner won easily next time out.

On his second career start Rockey Rodney nearly broke the course record at Goodwood and he can strike once again with Eddie’s Boy looking sure to set a strong pace.

4.10 Goodwood – European Breeders Fund EBF Fillies’ Handicap (1m 1f)

Sea Speedwell (nap) for the inform William Haggas team was having her first start since December when running at Leicester thirteen days ago. She was second that day to Oriole giving lumps of weight away to the three-year-old having  travelled the best and looking the winner until run out of it late on. That was her third career start and first on turf with her inexperience still showing to the fore.

She will come on plenty for that, and given her very good pedigree, this Sea The Stars filly could make a mockery of this mark of 82.

5.20 Goodwood – Handicap (7f)

The Attorney is very much a seven furlong specialist and can gain his first victory of 2022 after running well to finish fifth in a strong renewal of the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket to reward each way players in my Unibet column. Earlier in the season at Goodwood he was second to The Turpinator, beaten a neck on good ground when carrying a big weight as he does here. This genuine type has a strong chance from stall 4.
