The Wine Tipster: “He retains all his enthusiasm and ability to secure what would be a very popular victory”

The Wine Tipster|28 July 2025

The Qatar Goodwood Festival feature on day one is the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes Group 1 with Illinois and Scandinavia dominating the market ahead of French Master, whilst Trueshan is making his fourth appearance in the Goodwood Cup having finished first, third and fourth. Earlier, in the Lennox Stakes, another Qatar Goodwood Festival regular Kinross, would be a very popular winner and has a strong chance.

Enjoy whether at the Qatar Goodwood Festival or watching #athome on ITV Racing or Racing TV.

Cheers!

1:20 Goodwood – Chesterfield Cup Handicap (1m 2f) Masoun comes here going for a three-timer after wins at Leopardstown and most recently at the Curragh on good ground when always travelling well. He is used to big fields, continues to improve and he is likely to step up once again. Unibet 11/1 each way

Westridge has form figures on his last three starts wearing cheekpieces of 212, with a win at Windsor and a good second to Wisper at the same course finishing four and half lengths clear of Andaleep, who won last week. Westridge ran in a handicap over a mile at the Qatar Goodwood Festival last year finishing sixth, after not getting a clear run so that run is best ignored. He comes to the Chesterfield in the right form, has the cheekpieces on again and with strong each way claims. Unibet 16/1 each way

1.55 Goodwood – Vintage Stakes Group 2 (7f) Zavateri who won on debut at Salisbury took a major step forward when taking the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket over six furlongs in impressive fashion by a length. He was always travelling well with the leading pack and once in front he found plenty to run right to the line. Zavateri is a good-looking individual who has the right attitude, and this success was no fluke with the time figure substantiating the visual impression. Here he seems to have been underestimated once again and despite having to give three pounds for his Group 2 success, he will appreciate the step up to seven furlongs and if Zavateri copes with the track he will make it three from three. Unibet 11/2 win

2.30 Goodwood – Lennox Stakes Group 2 (7f) Kinross (nap) is looking to win the Lennox for the third time after victories in 2021 and 2023, as well as being just touched off in 2022. In 2024, when third, the tactics didn’t work out as Audience who raced in second got away in front and this time the same thing won’t happen again. Kinross ran a blinder on his seasonal reappearance in the John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock in May, when an excellent second to Ten Bob Tony giving the winner five pounds, whilst Audience was back in seventh. This will have been the target with the eight-year-old Kinross showing he retains all his enthusiasm and ability to secure what would be a very popular victory. Unibet 3/1 win

3.05 Goodwood – Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes Group 1 (2m) Trueshan showed at Paris Longchamp in May on his sole start this season he retains all his enthusiasm at nine years of age when a staying on fourth to Candelari in the Group 1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier. Trueshan lost his position coming round the home turn, which prevented him from making a challenge at that point and he would have been closer to the winner than the six and a half lengths he was beaten by. There is a field of eight and Trueshan has to be worth a small each way wager. Unibet 40/1 each way

3.45 Goodwood – Handicap (5f) Redorange won at Chester earlier in the season and was marked up in my Unibet blog at Royal Ascot for the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes when third leading home the far side group from stall 4, with the winner Adrestia, who reopposes, drawn 24, runner-up 17 and fourth from stall 18. He returned to Ascot earlier this month and again the draw worked against him, so he had to be switched across to join the stand side group to finish a close fourth. Here he is drawn in stall 18, which could be ideal, as Redorange is next to Democracy Dilemma who likes to front run and will ensure there is plenty of pace. Redorange might be edging up the weights, though this three-year-old is having only his ninth career start and will run a big race. Unibet 5/1 win
