The Wine Tipster: “If the gaps come today he can get back on the winning path”

The Wine Tipster|10 January 2025

THIS Saturday we have jump racing thanks to the initiative of adding a new jump fixture from Ffos Las, where temperatures are not due to dip below two degrees and will reach a maximum of five degrees.

At other courses the cold snap has become colder during the week, which gave Warwick no chance of putting on their big Classic Chase Day with an additional race on the card featuring the Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase Series’ Final rerouted from the abandoned Sandown meeting.

The Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase Series’ Final will now take place on Friday January 17th at Market Rasen.

Enjoy the jump action from Ffos Las and on the all-weather from Chelmsford and Newcastle whether going racing or watching #athome on ITV Racing.

Cheers!

The Wine Tipster

1.15 Ffos Las – Townton Novices’ Chase Grade 2 (2m 3½f)

Handstands (nap) has to give the penalty away, which obviously makes life a little more difficult for him, but he looked much more accomplished at Sandown when winning the Esher Novices’ Chase last time than he had at Wincanton on his chase debut where he looked in need of the run, and the whole experience.

He is very athletic and nimble and has a relentless style about him and he can take this before a crack at the top prizes this spring.

Unibet | 2/1 win

2.00 Newcastle – Handicap (1m2f)

Urban Road has ground to make up on Midnight Lion on their running here on New Years Day, but Midnight Lion was allowed his own way up front that day and made all under a slowish pace, whereas here he might face competition for the lead from Lerwick and possibly Life On The Rocks, who has been known to go forward.

A better pace will definitely help Urban Road close that gap down, as he’s a strong-travelling sort that likes to come with a steady run in the latter stages, as was the case when successful over course and distance in December. He’s not had the best of luck in the run a couple of times since then, but if the gaps come today, he can get back on the winning path.

2.58 Ffos Las – Handicap Hurdle (3m)

Mahland is one my Unibet Ten To Follow for the jump season and he had his seasonal debut last month at Bangor when a remote seventh to Strackan (won on New Year’s Day at Cheltenham) after being prominent until fading rapidly three out and then being heavily eased.

He will definitely come on plenty for that run and will be ready to progress again from his best form last season including at Ffos Las over this distance. He was always prominent that day and moved away smoothly nearer the finish showing that he was a true stayer too.

The connections have trained the Welsh Grand National winner this season and Mahland has each way claims at a minimum here.

Balkardy is the outsider in the field who is a true stayer and is right down the bottom of the weights. He was third last time out at Ludlow behind the smart Tightenourbelts and Neon Moon, whilst he has run well at Ffos Las on several occasions. Balkardy will appreciate the conditions and can reward each way players.

The Wine Tipster’s Fourfold

A new year and The Wine Tipster is right back in the saddle… but will he end up in the Winner’s Enclosure?

Roll these three picks from our red-hot tipster into a treble and the drinks really may well be on you! HANDSTANDS, URBAN ROAD, and MAHLAND. Add to your betslip, hit the ACCA BOOST option and a £5 each way acca potentially returns over £740 if they come in! Of course, it’s a long shot, but stranger things have happened!
