The Wine Tipster: “It’s Aidan O’Brien at the double for me today!”

August 1, 2019November 8th, 2021

THE 7th Magnolia Cup takes place today and this charity race for Wellbeing in Women, features personalities like Victoria Pendleton, Vogue Williams, Rosie Tapner and 18 year old Khadijah Mellah, who learnt to ride at the Ebony Horse Club in Brixton. Khadijah has spent the last couple of months with Charlie Fellowes at Newmarket and is riding Haverland for the yard.

Today on Ladies’ Day at Glorious Goodwood I recommend the strawberries and cream with a glass of Mirabeau Pure Provence Rosė 2018

1.50 Goodwood Unibet Handicap 1m 1f

Dalaalaat was third at Nottingham in a race that’s thrown up a stack of winners, then successful over a mile at Chelmsford, getting on top late and a return to today’s trip will suit this rapid improver.

Unibet each way 15/2

2.25 Goodwood Richmond Stakes Group 2 6f

Threat has a tremendous chance for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon on the back of a win at Newmarket and then a good eye-catching half length second to Arizona in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. There is plenty of progression to come here.

Unibet win 7/4

3.00 Goodwood Qatar Richmond Stakes Group 2 6f

Constantinople trained by Aidan O’Brien was mugged in the King George V at Ascot after looking all over the winner. He carried top weight that day and that performance marked him as Group class. The drop back in trip no real issue and looks a worthy favourite.

Unibet win 9/4

3.35 Goodwood Nassau Stakes Group 1 1m 2f

Hermosa (nap) is a very solid favourite here and rightly so, as the quicker ground today is certainly bound to suit her. Her winning performances at Newmarket in the 1,000 Guineas and the Irish equivalent at the Curragh were excellent ahead of disappointing a little at Royal Ascot, when second in the Coronation Stakes behind Watch Me over a mile. Today’s step up in trip of an extra two furlongs looks sure to suit this very talented filly in a race not renowned for surprises.

Unibet win 15/8

The lightly raced four-year-old Sun Maiden trained by Sir Michael Stoute, who is a half-sister to Midday, who won this race on three consecutive occasions could run a big race at a double figure price. Admittedly on the ratings she has plenty to do, yet she has really progressed this season and her listed success at Nottingham and Group 3 at Newcastle back this up as well as her enthusiastic approach.

Unibet each way 18/1

5.20 – Goodwood Tatler Handicap 5f

Amplify is on for a three timer for inform trainer Brian Meehan and has been handed the ideal draw of stall 17 to make all from. The 3lb rise is nothing for the latest win and Oisin Murphy rides again. Lot to like, and track should suit.

Unibet each way 7/1
