The Wine Tipster: “My best bets ahead of an enthralling Sunday”

The Wine Tipster|17 April 2021

AN enthralling Sunday of racing ahead with the 1,000 Guineas and 2,000 Guineas trials at Newbury, with the Fred Darling Stakes Fillies and then the Greenham Stakes respectively. The favourites for both races Alcohol Free and Chindit look very exciting, and it would great to see them progress smoothly on seasonal debut.

Scottish National day at Ayr is always a favourite of mine and for the feature it looks a case of finding a type that will appreciate the good ground conditions. This also looks more open than the market suggests, and age is clearly no barrier looking at winners over the last ten years. Earlier on in the card surely Allmankind can step up in trip and win the Grade 2 Novice Chase and an intriguing Scottish Champion Hurdle adds to a card to relish.

Enjoy at home.

Cheers

2.10 Newbury – Duty Free Fred Darling Stakes Group Three (7f)

Alcohol Free (nap) makes plenty of appeal here as she finished off last season in great style when winning the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket over six furlongs on good ground, with Happy Romance who reopposes back in fourth. Happy Romance had proved too good on their previous start at Salisbury and yet Alcohol Free looks sure to come back out on top again today as she will appreciate the step up to seven furlongs. There is plenty to like about this filly in terms of attitude and she can do really well in 2021.

2.25 Ayr – Scottish Champion Hurdle Grade 2 (2m)

Miss Heritage has finished in the first two in her last six starts and comes here with the Lucy Wadham yard going really well. Miss Heritage’s last appearance was second in the Imperial Cup at Sandown to the smart Langar Dan (finished second in the Martin Pipe). She has tended to run on softer ground, yet the quicker conditions shouldn’t be any concern and Miss Heritage has been making steady improvement. She certainly has a good each way chance in a contest where it doesn’t look like there will be a frantic pace, which will suit.

2.45 Newbury – Too Darn Hot Greenham Stakes Group Three (7f)

Chindit for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon can return to winning ways after finding the ground too testing at Newmarket in the Dewhurst. Chindit wasn’t the only runner who was uncomfortable in the conditions, as Tactical was behind that day and won at the Craven meeting this week. Ahead of the Dewhurst Chindit was unbeaten in three starts all on ground good or quicker and he particularly impressed in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster when winning with a smooth performance, beating Albasheer over this trip. Chindit has the class and determination to come out on top today.

Unibet 17/8 win

3.20  Newbury – Spring Cup Handicap (1m)

Revich ran a blinder over a straight mile at Doncaster in the Lincoln after missing the break to finish sixth. If he follows that form up to day with a better start he definitely has each way chances, as this Chester specialist is beginning to look like a straight mile suits equally too.

3.35 Ayr – Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase (4m)

Dingo Dollar has had one start for Sandy Thompson since changing yards and he was a very easy winner on his first start at Newcastle in last month. He is 8lb higher today but that is all workable with the good form he has, including a staying on fifth to De Rasher Counter in Newbury’s big chase. Dingo Dollar has won on good ground and looks to have a really good chance here.

Unibet 17/2 each way

Some Chaos for the inform Michael Scudamore team looks like he has been laid out for this and he will definitely appreciate the good ground. He last two starts have been over hurdles and whilst he has finished some way back fences is the key to him. His win at Kelso last October over fences over three miles two furlongs, when beating another rival today Claud and Goldie, marked him out as a type he will relish today’s trip. He followed up with a good fifth in the Badger Beer at Wincanton.

Unibet 22/1 each way
