The Wine Tipster: “She left a striking impression on debut and will be suited by the quick conditions”

The Wine Tipster|14 June 2022

THE feature of day two of Royal Ascot 2022 is the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes is which Bay Bridge at Unibet 5/4 looks a strong favourite and can give Derby winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute another Royal Ascot winner.

In the Queen Mary Stakes Dramatised really started the Guineas Festival off in brilliant style. I would like to see her take the same approach in the Queen Mary Stakes and ensure there is a strong gallop.

The Queen’s Vase looks much more open than the betting suggests and Al Qareem can run a big race.

Enjoy whether at Royal Ascot 2022 or watching #athome

Cheers

The Wine Tipster.

2.30 Ascot – Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) 5f

Dramatised on her only career start won the first race of the Guineas Festival at Newmarket with a memorable performance, when taking the lead early on to win this maiden by 4 lengths from Malrescia, who has won easily on both runs since then. Dramatised recorded a smart time with a very fast final furlong and showed greenness when moving off a straight line at times. She took some pulling up and her main problem might be coping with the preliminaries. Dramatised left a striking impression on debut and she will be suited by quick conditions. A strong chance.

Miami Girl for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon won easily on debut by five and half lengths, beating Beautiful Sunrise at the Guineas Festival at Newmarket. There was plenty to like about her performance and she was marked down as a filly for Royal Ascot. On her next start at York she was bumped leaving the stalls and never settled, finishing unplaced behind Pillow Talk. That run should be ignored and she looks capable based on debut of finishing in the places here.

3.05 Ascot – Queen’s Vase (Group 2) 1m 6f

Al Qareem form figures this season are 2121 and he is progressing all the time. On his last start at York he appreciated the step up in trip and he really put in an eye-catching performance when making all to beat Wild Crusade. Ground will suit and he can run a big race.

3.40 – Prince Of Wales’s Stakes Group 1 (1m 2f)

Bay Bridge is looking to make it six on the bounce for the inform Sir Michael Stoute team. This four-year-old didn’t win as a juvenile in his two starts and since then he has kept on improving with four victories last season. Bay Bridge stepped up to Group 3 company on his only appearance this season when taking the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown last month beating the smart Mostahdaf by five lengths. He really impressed me at Sandown and there was plenty to like about his attitude as well as the Sir Michael Stoute factor in bringing out the improvement in these older horses.

4.20 Ascot – Duke Of Cambridge Stakes Group 2 (Fillies & Mares)

Saffron Beach finished off last season in tremendous style, when easily beating the 1,000 Guineas winner Mother Earth at Newmarket by three lengths in the Sun Chariot last October, making every yard and running on strongly to score with plenty in hand. Importantly, this was a turnaround in form, as Saffron Beach had finished second to Mother Earth in the 1,000 Guineas and it is worth pointing out that conditions were good to firm on that occasion so no problem today.

Saffron Beach then lost nothing in defeat when fourth in the Dubai Turf in March over one mile one furlong and she has been given a break since.

The drop back to one mile will suit and Saffron Beach can get the recognition she rightly deserves.

5.00 Ascot – Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) 1m

Dark Shift (nap) left his previous good form behind when absolutely dotting up beating Dubai Mirage when upped to a mile and half a furlong at Nottingham last time, looking a much-improved horse in the process. He was a course and distance winner last October, having won four of his six starts here at the Berkshire course. In a field where it is hard to find many with the right profile, he looks to hold outstanding claims, as four-year-olds have won four of the last five renewals and near the bottom of the weights is a plus. Stall 15 gives James McDonald options here.

Totally Charming showed at Epsom that he is equally effective on turf as he is on the all-weather when winning comfortably beating Revich when eased down. That was a step up and conditions will suit with Totally Charming drawn 17 for the George Boughey team. Frankie Dettori takes the ride.
