The Wine Tipster: “The stable is in tremendous form, and you can see Jeriko Du Reponet scoring his third success at Newbury”

The Wine Tipster|29 November 2024

AN exciting Saturday ahead at Newbury on their biggest jump meeting of the season with a very competitive card and a dry forecast.

At Newcastle the feature is the Fighting Fifth Hurdle Grade 1 with Sir Gino Unibet Evens heading the market for Unibet Ambassador Nicky Henderson. Sir Gino is a very exciting prospect, and he can hold off his main rival here Mystical Power Unibet 6/5 to take the Fighting Fifth.

Enjoy whether at a racecourse or watch #athome on ITV Racing.

Looking forward to being at Newbury. See you there!

Cheers

12.40 Newbury – Handicap Chase (2m 6f)

Le Milos was marked up in my Unibet blog last Saturday at Haydock when declared a non-runner due to the testing conditions and he can’t be overlooked here with a dry forecast.  He started this season over fences, having been campaigned over hurdles for his three appearances last season, when running well for a long way in the big handicap chase at Cheltenham on the Saturday of their Showcase meeting. He has been dropped to a mark of 144 from 147 and with him coming down in grade too he has a strong chance of gaining his first success since winning the big handicap chase here at Newbury in November 2022.

1.54 Newbury – Handicap Hurdle (2m 4f)

Issam really has a good chance here as he has won on heavy, soft and good to soft so conditions should be right up his street. There was nothing wrong with his Welsh Champion Hurdle fourth at Ffos Las on his reappearance in October to the very good Lump Sum, as that form has already been working out with the second home Steel Ally winning a competitive handicap at Haydock last weekend.

2.25 Newbury – Intermediate Handicap Hurdle (2m)

Jeriko Du Reponet for Unibet Ambassador Nicky Henderson can’t be ignored despite having a total off day at Sandown last month in the preliminaries and during the race when never going well ahead of being pulled up after a terrible blunder. He also pulled up on his final appearance of last season at the Cheltenham Festival, however he had won his three previous starts of the season, including over this trip at Newbury. The stable is in tremendous form, and you can see Jeriko Du Reponet scoring his third success at Newbury.

Unibet are paying an EXTRA PLACE on this race!

Ooh Betty was third in the competitive EBF Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle here in March, where she appeared to not quite get the 2m 4f trip and that was again the impression when she took on Golden Ace at Cheltenham a month later. Ooh Betty was holding a chance at the last, only a length down, she faded up the hill and again looked more a two-miler than further.

She appeared at Sandown back over two miles last month, travelling strongly throughout and putting the race to bed in a few strides as they came to the last.

Ooh Betty will certainly appreciate the likely good pace on here and this real improver has strong each way claims.

3.00 Newbury – Gold Cup Handicap Chase (3m 2f)

Victtorino is making his seasonal debut and with the yard in such good form they are having easy winners first time out. This six-year-old won his first two races last season at Ascot, including in the Silver Cup when beating Yeah Man in what is always a competitive race. On his last start he pulled up in the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival, however he can bounce back here in what is not a vintage renewal against the lesser experienced second season chasers heading the market.

Unibet are paying an EXTRA PLACE on this race!

Sam Brown might be a veteran who is carrying top weight in a race where second season chasers have an excellent recent record and yet he showed last season when winning the Unibet  Veterans’ Handicap Chase (2023 Veterans’ Chase Series Final) he had lost none of his enthusiasm or ability.

Sam Brown backed that up with a good third in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby behind The Real Whacker at the beginning of the month, so this veteran has each way claims with Unibet paying four places.

3:35 Newbury – Handicap Chase (2m)

Etalon(nap) was most progressive last year winning three on the bounce and looked badly in need of the run when pulling up in the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance, finding the ground too quick in the process. This test looks much more suitable, and although he carries top weight this is not a concern as the last two winners won off 11-13 and 12-1 with Etalon having the class too.

The Wine Tipster’s Treble

An exhilarating day of racing awaits, with The Gold Cup the jewel in the crown at Newbury.

Roll these three picks from our red-hot tipster into a treble and the drinks really may well be on you! Issam, Jeriko Du Reponet, and Victtorino. Add to your betslip, hit the ACCA BOOST option and £5 each way potentially returns over £2,000 if they come in! Of course, it’s a long shot, but stranger things have happened!
