But there could well be an upset here in Manchester on Tuesday. After all, India and New Zealand had their group stage clash cancelled due to the weather, so there is little head-to-head form to go on here. Yes, India beat New Zealand 4-1 in an ODI series earlier this year. But that series was played on a New Zealand wicket and conditions in England could well be very different on Tuesday.

New Zealand are 3.40 to win this match and that is a good price heading into the game. Yes, they finished fourth the group stage and ran out of steam a bit after a stellar start. But captain Kane Williamson knows where his team’s strengths lie.

New Zealand will look to hammer the India top order and Lockie Ferguson — with 17 wickets already this tournament — will be key. He is 1.90 to earn more wickets than India’s Mohammed Shami, which is a decent price. After all, Shami poached five wickets against England and four vs West Indies. The battle for pace supremacy could be where this match is won and lost.

Australia vs England – Thursday, July 11 at 10:30 BST

England looked set to crash out of the Cricket World Cup in the group stage before resounding wins over India and New Zealand saved them. Eoin Morgan’s side now face Australia, who convincingly beat England by 64 runs at Lord’s last month. The Aussies came into the Cricket World Cup out of form and out of favour. Yet they could well win the competition at 3.60 here.

England’s resolve has come over the past 10 days and is largely down to their batting line up. Strong knocks from Jonny Bairstow against both India and New Zealand have provided the bedrock for victories. Ben Stokes and Mark Wood have done the business with the ball in hand, so England are in high spirits heading into Thursday’s game.
