Benzema will miss Euro Football 2016 – Do France need him to progress?

Karim Benzema is Real Madrid’s frontman and an incredibly talented football player, however, recently, he’s been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The Frenchman has been in the centre of controversy and a scandal involving Mathieu Valbuena. There was much debate whether Karim will miss Euro Football 2016, but now it’s confirmed that he will not be in Didier Dechamps plans this summer, following a decision by the French Football Federation. Karim Benzema’s Qualities

The 28 year old is deadly in front of goal and France will surely miss that aspect of his game. He finds himself in the right place at the right time, a quality any forward should possess. Benzema’s favourite style of play is through counter attacks, catching opponents on the wrong foot and using the team’s speed to find the space and create goals. Karim scored 27 goals for France and some pretty impressive goals too. One of his key qualities is holding onto the ball. He’s tall and powerful and midfielders are constantly looking for him to build up play, as his through balls and passing accuracy have proven to be a menace to opposing teams.

France without Benzema

France have a very strong squad and have been in great form, winning 4 out of their last 5 matches. Although Benzema is incredibly talented, there are many other players on par who are perfectly fit and up for the challenge.

Arsenal’s Oliver Giroud had a fantastic season for the gunners, finding the net 16 times and contributing greatly to the team’s success. The 29 year old is an all-round striker, helping out at the back, supplying perfect crosses and being involved in many goals and scoring opportunities.

Antoine Griezmann has improved so much over the last couple of years and rightly deserves a spot in Dechamps team this Euro Football 2016. He’s been instrumental to Atletico Madrid’s success this season and his long range shots are a quality any coach would want from his players. He’s very good at holding the ball and loves to cut inside, creating gaps in the opponent’s defensive line and exposing their weaknesses. Griezmann scored 32 goals in all competitions this season.

Anthony Martial is another potential replacement for the Real Madrid forward, who found the net 17 times this season. His excellent dribbling and deadly finishing make him a top contender for match time during Euro Football 2016.

Regardless of how strong the French team is, a player of Benzema’s quality will surely be missed, especially when playing on home soil.
